Who is Aaron Motswaledi

Pakishe Aaron Motsoaledi is the incumbent Minister of Home Affairs. He was born in 1958 in Limpopo in a family of 9 children, seven boys and two girls. He is Pedi. At the age of 8, he became political conscious after witnessing the arrest of a neighbour for not carrying a "dompas". The apartheid government was brutal when it cames to blacks who were not carrying an identification book. Motswaledi went to Natal from Limpopo to do his tertiary education.

Motswaledi studied medicine at the University of Natal in 1981. He joined (now South African Student Congress - SASCO) and in 1982 he became the President of Student Representative Council, University of Natal. He worked with all Mass Democratic Movements (MDMs) and trade unions in Natal and was a United Democratic Front (UDF) Leader in Natal. He didn't go to exile like other cadres who run away from the police who were searching for them to lynch them.
