'Corrupt' ANC Heavyweight To Finally Appear In Court

Corruption accused ANC heavyweight in the Eastern Cape province and it's Premier will finally have his day in court.

The High Court in Bhisho in the Eastern Cape is expected to hear the matter involving premier Oscar Mabuyane, Public Works MEC Babalo Madikizela, in which they are interdicting the Hawks from investigating them.

Corruption accused Oscar Mabuyane scrambled to interdict investigations into the alleged corruption amounting to R450 000 as he claims he is innocent.

This follows a report which Public Protector Busisiwe Mkhwebane released implicating Mabuyane and Madikizela in unduly benefiting from funds meant for struggle stalwart Winnie Madikizela-Mandela's memorial service. Mabuyane argues that he has no case to answer.

Eastern Cape premier and his government colleagues have been accused of misusing state funds for personal gain in a province marked by dilapidated houses, pit latrines and high levels of poverty.

The Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation (the Hawks) has confirmed that it believes Premier Oscar Mabuyane should face criminal prosecution for alleged fraud and corruption after the unit concluded its almost two-year graft investigation into how he and the Eastern Cape head of public works, Babalo Madikezela allegedly benefited from a portion of the R3.3-million in state funds made available for the commemoration of struggle icon Winnie Madikizela-Mandela in 2018.

The allegations, are contained in a report released on 10 October by the public protector.

Oscar Mabuyane and his colleagues are fighting to save their political careers after president Cyril Ramaphosa revealed that all leaders facing criminal charges will unfortunately have to step aside.

Sympathisers of Oscar Mabuyane who can't fathom the idea of him being asked to step aside from his Eastern Cape Premier position have been pointing fingers at others claiming the corruption charges he is facing are politically motivated to ruin his political career.

Mabuyane's story is however not a new phenomenon as many corrupt ANC officials when they get exposed they always find someone to blame and cry foul that it's a political witch-hunt.
