Finally|| A Mayor Who Was Convicted Of Forcing Himself To An Underage Girl Has Been Ousted

Former Kannaland mayor Jeffrey Donson, who was convicted of forcing himself to an underage girl has been ousted from his position after the majority of councilors voted against him in the motion of no confidence on Wednesday.

Donson and his deputy Werner Meshoe refused to step down after it emerged they had criminal convictions. Donson, the leader of the Independent Civic Organisation of South Africa. He forcefully remained in his position for the past few months after calls from political parties and civil society rang out since his election in November, that he should resign because of his questionable conviction.

He was convicted of forcing himself on a 15-year-old girl in 2008 and he went to the Western Cape High Court to appeal the matter and was handed a suspended sentence. The ANC pulled out of the coalition deal with Icosa over Donson’s questionable conviction. It was after the ANC had internal discussions over the matter following the outcry. A few days ago members of the Kannaland council brought a motion of no confidence against him.

On Wednesday members of the council voted to remove him from his position as mayor. After that, the same council has resolved that speaker Nicolaas Valentyn should take over as mayor. Since calls for him to resign from gender groups and political parties from last November Donson refused.

His party wanted him to continue as the municipality mayor but things didn't go on their way. His deputy Meshoe was also convicted of fraud and later fired as a teacher over having a romantic relationship with a learner. Both leaders had been punished for their sins but politics overpowered them.

According to the constitution of the country, one can be elected to a political position after five years of being released from prison. If they didn't go to prison, it's after ten years. According to the records they have done that. But political parties used it against them which is unfair especially when ANC is involved. The ruling party has lot of criminals within itself and it is not punishing them, why?
