Another municipality in the Eastern Cape has been renamed within the month of Port Elizabeth name change. It is now been renamed after a struggle veteran, Winnie Madikizela Mandela.
The consultation of renaming this municipality was undertaken and supported by the community. It has been gazzeted by the MEC of Corporative Governance and Traditional affairs (COGTA) Xolile Nqatha.
Mbizana local municipality has been renamed after struggle veteran Winnie Madikizela-Mandela as a means to honour her for her part in ending the oppressive apartheid regime.
COGTA spokesperson, Mamnkeli Ngami confirmed that the municipality will change names according to Sowetan live.
Ngami said the name change had been supported by the community.
Recently Port Elizabeth was also renamed and it is now called Gqeberha, which is named after a historic river.
There have been calls for atleast one national keypoint to be renamed after Winnie Madikizela Mandela and lot of people, including EFF leader, Julius Malema, had proposed that Cape town international airport be renamed after Mma Winnie.
