Hillary Gardee's Murder Suspect To Fight ANC In Court Over His Membership

Philemon Lukhele who is one of the murder accused of Hillary Gardee is taking legal action against the ANC over utterances they made about him obtaining the party's membership fraudulently.

Lukhele was, until the time of his arrest, a research manager in ANC chief whip Fidel Mlombo's office in the Mpumalanga provincial legislature. He is however from Eswatini but is exiling in South Africa due to his political activism.

It was then questioned how a foreigner managed to obtain ANC membership and also end up working in the office of ANC chief whip in Mpumalanga province.

In Swaziland, Philemon Lukhele was a member of the People's United Democratic Movement, but the party suspended him last month following Hillary Gardee's murder. Lukhele is also a former Wits SRC president.

While Lukhele and the other accused are still to face their fate, critics argue that it is not a wise decision that he drags ANC to court over his membership when he himself is facing bigger charges including murder and kidnapping.

"With his murder charge still to be tested. He opts for starting another battle about party membership. Party membership must deliver real dividends," some said.

Some critics speculate that Philemon Lukhele who was working in the Chief Whip's office in the Mpumalanga legislature is still getting his monthly salary until convicted or otherwise. This explains why he still have the guts to drag ANC to court over the status of his membership.

If indeed Philemon Lukhele managed to get his membership fraudulently, then it also points to the porous ANC system which allows a foreigner to get membership and went on to work in local government in Mpumalanga province.

Social critics say ANC is also to blame because if it was not about Hillary Gardee's murder which opened a can of worms, Lukhele would still be working comfortably with his membership not questioned.
