15 ANC Councillors Face Suspension

Fifteen ANC councillors from the Nkomazi Municipality in Malelane, Mpumalanga, have until the end of business on Friday to explain why they should not be suspended from the party.

Speculation has it that the fifteenth ANC comrades will be suspended for voting with the opposition for the appointment of the mayor instead of voting for the candidate that the NEC nominated.

They are reported to have actually been dismissed and now they should write to the party why they should not be suspended for violating the ANC constitution which speaks against voting for the opposition.

This is not only the incident which happened where ANC comrades voted with the opposition for the mayoral post.

In Metsimaholo municipality, ANC comrades voted for an Economic Freedom Fighters mayor Selloane Motjeane. She was however asked to resign with immediate effect by the EFF leaders after it emerged that the ANC comrades who had voted for her in power were already asking for favours.

Meanwhile, Democratic Alliance councillor Marlenevan Staden has been elected as the new mayor of the Modimolle Mookgophoong Local Municipality.

Van Staden won against ANC councillor Aaron Sebolai, who was also vying for the mayoral position.

This result comes after four council sittings collapsed due to challenges ranging from absenteeism by ANC councillors to voting processes which ended in a tie between the two mayoral candidates.

Modimolle Mookgophoong is one of the municipalities which were declared as hung council after the 14 seats went to the ANC , 7 seats to the DA, 4 to the Economic Freedom Fighters and 3 to the Freedom Front Plus.

ANC Limpopo Secretary, Soviet Lekganyane says they accept the re-election of Democratic Alliance councillor Marlene Van Staden as mayor of Modimolle-Mookgophong Local Municipality.

The DA mayor won with the help of the Economic Freedom Fighters.
