Hopewell Chin'ono, a prominent journalist from Zimbabwe, warned his fellow citizens against visiting South Africa in a post he made to his official Twitter account on Monday, August 8. Since tensions are high in the country between illegal immigrants and natives, he took this action. In it, he wrote a letter to his fellow Zimbabweans.
Hopewell Chin'ono sent a video to social media showing residents of the Kagiso community in Krugersdorp hitting and stripping naked men they believe to be illegal miners. It was reported that the incident happened in the city proper. Because he believes that illegal foreigners will have a harder time after the 2024 elections, Chin'ono has issued a warning to his fellow Zimbabweans, telling them not to travel to South Africa. Because he anticipates trouble for illegal immigrants after the elections, Chin'ono has issued this warning.
If you're a Zimbabwean and you want to move to South Africa in search of a better life, stop right now unless you're already living there legally. The only justifiable exception to not staying put is if you are facing imminent danger.
There will be elections in South Africa in 2024, and the governing ANC may experience an electoral tremor at that time.
