Defilement claims and embarrassments are nothing new for the ANC, but now the DA has a bit of an outrage on its hands, as well. Masizole Mnqasela has been suspended from all party activities by the party's Western Cape Provincial Executive. What's the big deal? Currently serving as Speaker of the Western Cape Provincial Assembly, Mnqasela is a prominent member of the community.
According to the DA, Mnqasela has been suspended until the outcome of an examination or disciplinary proceedings against him.
The DA maintains that the allegations against Mnqasela have "sufficient validity." Because of his ties to movement and diversion recompense irregularities, he is being held responsible for them.
"A suspension by the PEC is contingent on findings in an examination report by the DA's Federal Legal Commission that the charges relating to anomalies in means, travel, and diversion compensation claims have sufficient legitimacy.
Mr Mnqasela was given the opportunity to explain why he should not be suspended, and he did so. The Party made the deliberate decision to go into suspension."
In addition, the DA says it is aware of internal cycles that are taking place against other members of the party. When those cycles are complete, it says it intends to take action.
According to Botes, the party and his project in the region have "zero resilience" when it comes to dealing with desecration. "A record of clean administration" pleases Botes, who says he is anxious about the latest developments.
