In Shock| ActionSA to Chase Out unruly members who lost out on being councillors

ActionSA is mired in a quarrel over municipal council deployment, with the leadership threatening to fire individuals who question its selection criterion for proportional representation councilors. Following last week's local government elections, the year-old party emerged as one of the kingmakers in Gauteng, particularly in the City of Johannesburg.

However, it has emerged this week that several of its members in Soweto and the City of Tshwane were dissatisfied that they did not make the party's PR list and have complained to party leadership. ActionSA gained 78 seats in Gauteng, the party's base, spanning municipalities. ActionSA chairperson Michael Beaumont warned TimesLIVE that the party will take action against members who violated the party's constitution.

We are certainly moving very aggressively against those who are exploiting this as a chance to split our organization, and I can tell you that there will be individuals terminated this evening, I believe rather strongly. Because their actions violate our country's constitution. But at the same time, there are a lot of individuals who are dissatisfied but are dealing with us in good faith, and we are engaging them, and we are talking to them about the reality that this is a growing organization, Beaumont explained. The party's highest decision-making body is the senate.

According to news reporters, a group of unhappy ActionSA members in Soweto accused the party of manipulating them to gather votes while its big shots were the only ones elected to the Johannesburg council. News media house has received more concerns about the PR list from Tshwane party members, which were shared in a WhatsApp group. "It looks like everyone and every ward in the various municipalities are experiencing the same difficulties, with little communication and what appears to be employment for friends." We, too, have a PR list that does not reflect the work, money, or understanding of the area as PR councilors. There is no communication or direction, one WhatsApp message reads.

Another communication warns the party of the consequences of the PR list fiasco. It appears like the PR list problem will knock down the good foundation that has been laid, comrades. There are structures to which any issues must be addressed. And Ekurhuleni comrade Lerato has [sent] the audio to the group to address the issue of complaining in this group.
