●The Minister of Health Dr Zweli Mkhize shared a series of good news for South Africa on a Wednesday regarding the fight against the Covid-19 pandemic.
● The Minister announced that there is going to be vaccines that will be landing in South Africa

On Sunday evening, the Minister of Health Dr Zweli Mkhize made an announcement that left South Africans with a lot of questions.
This is after he announced that the original plans to execute the AstraZeneca vaccines had been put on halt.He said this was on grounds of the low efficacy of the vaccine to protect against the Covid-19 variant that was detected in South Africa in 2020.
However , instead, the government is set to resume the vaccination of the healthcare workers but with a different vaccine.There is going to be a use of the Johnson and Johnson vaccine instead of the originally planned AstraZeneca.
The Minister upon giving his update regarding the way forward, reportedly said that the Johnson and Johnson vaccine was proven to be effective in protecting against the 501Y.V2 virus that was detected in South Africa.

The Minister went on and revealed that the country had succeeded in the procurement of the Pfizer vaccine which will enable the first phase of the rollout to be implemented.
He did not say out when the vaccine is expected to land in South African soils , but assured that it would be sooner that anticipated.
The Minister is reported to have highlighted that he is still awaiting the completion of the negotiations and they must be completed by next week.
He also announced that the local scientists are in the midst of engaging with other manufactures of vaccines so that they help the nation with the procurement of the much needed miracle.
CHINA AND SOUTH AFRICA SIGN A NON-CLOSURE AGREEMENT ON THE COVID-19 VACCINE
Doc Zweli Mkhize announced that engagements with other companies like Sinopharm are still underway and that the Republic of China has since made some offers.
He said that a non -disclosure agreement has since been signed between China and the South African Health Products Regulatory Authority. He added that the ratification process is underway.

Still moving on , there is progress that has been made with a United States based company, Moderna on the procurement of the Covid-19 vaccine. Dr Mkhize is reported to have highlighted that an agreement has been reached .
In regard to the already purchased AstraZeneca vaccines, the Minister said that the scientists are still deciding on what can be done. He added that the vaccine could also be swopped before it expires so that it is not a waste.
Mkhize highlighted that the country did not plan to claim refunds , but will use it based on the advice that will be rendered. He added that there are countries who are inquiring that they get sold the vaccine as it is already in the country.
