Some bad news despite the release of the 2020 National Senior Certificates results is that there are some pupils who did not manage to sit for the examinations as they withdrew because of the Covid-19 pandemic.
The Minister of Basic Education Mrs Angie Motshekga made an announcement of the 2020 Matric results on Monday the 22nd of February 2020.
Mrs Angie Motshekga expressed contentment over the results that were obtained as they were more than what she had anticipated.The class of 2020 achieved a national pass rate of 76.2 percent.
Following the announcement yesterday by the Minister of Basic Education Mrs Angie Motshekga of the results, the teachers' union managed to have a say towards what the 2020 class achieved.
The 76.2 percent pass rate came despite the 2020 being a year that was full of challenges and difficulties for the learners , teachers , parents and School Management Teams.

The South African Democratic Teachers' Union highlighted that the 2020 Matric class deserved being shown gratitude for the job that was described as being well done despite facing the most challenging academic year in the history of mankind.
The union made these remarks following the announcement by the Minister of Basic Education Mrs Angie Motshekga on Monday.
The 76.2 percent pass rate that was scored by the 2020 class was reportedly a drop by 5.1 percernt in comparison to the 81.3 percent which was scored in 2019.
The South African Democratic Teachers Union warmly welcomed the 2020 National Senior Certificate results and added that even though the pass rate had decreased , it was something that could not be ruled out.

Moving on , the South African Democratic Teachers Union was full of praise for all the stakeholders that were influential in making everything possible.
Praises were given to the teachers who worked hard preparing the examinations and preparing the learners for the examinations despite the difficulties that were infested in the 2020 academic year.
The bad news despite the release of the 2020 National Senior Certificates results is that there are some pupils who withdrew and never got an opportunity to sit for their examinations.
The South African Democratic Teachers Union added that the withdrawal was because of the Covid-19 pandemic. These were made known by the Secretary General of the union Mugwena Maluleke.

However, the Secretary General appreciated the great efforts made by the township, rural and non-paying schools. This is because it is reported that these schools attained good passes.
The Secretary General went on and reportedly touched on the difficulties faced by other schools that did not have sufficient resources.
He highlighted how difficult it was for some learners whose schools got shut down and had to adapt to learning in other schools.

He went on and said that by the time these schools reopened,it was not easy for the teachers who had to go an extra mile in preparation of the learners for the examinations.
Activities such as extra lessons , working on weekends , afternoon lessons and early morning lessons.Maluleke said that all these efforts were being initiated to prepare the learners for the examinations, hence it paid off but at a huge cost.
