Relations between President Cyril Ramaphosa and his predecessor Jacob Zuma are inevitably rocky. The relations were soured out by the removal of Zuma as the President.
The two at some point of their careers served as the President and the Deputy of the African National Congress(ANC) and the Republic of South Africa.
Some would say the tension between the two stated in 2017 during the African National Congress (ANC) elective conference when Zuma went to back Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma as the party leader. Following the conference Ramaphosa emerged victorious and weeks later Zuma was removed as the President.
According to sources in 2019 in Davos, Switzerland, at the World Economic Forum Cyril Ramaphosa and some of his ministers told the world that Zuma's Presidency was a wasted nine years. His attendance at the Forum came as to mend the relations with the world.
Furthermore, he stated that during the Zuma era state institutions were captioned and that corruption was a norm and that they were putting that era behind them. President Zuma would respond by saying he did fulfill the set roles by the ANC during his team in office.
Now with Zuma refusing to appear before the Zondo Commission this has further shakened their relations. Allegations has since emerged that monies was used to help Cyril Ramaphosa acquire the Presidency of the ANC and that judges were paid to keep this away from society.
With the Zondo Commission now calling for jail time against Jacob Zuma, this will likely further damage their relations.
