People in South Africa continue struggling as a result of the effects of the Covid-19 pandemic .In 2020 , the Government of South Africa Initiated some mechanisms to assist the members of the public financially.
However , the various modes of assistance such as grants expired in 2020 leaving many people stranded.
The great news for South Africa is that the President of South Africa Mr Cyril Ramaphosa made an announcement that there is going to be an extension of the Covid-19 grants that had elapsed .
This comes after the revelations that South Africans are still in affected by the Covid-19 pandemic. This is a relief as most members of the society are still unemployed.
The 31st of January 2021 had seen the R350 Unemployment Grants coming to an end .
However , there was a huge outcry from the unemployed members of the public as they were begging the Government to extend the Grant. Millions of people benefit from the R350 Unemployment Grants which got introduced in 2020.

The President of South Africa during the state of the nation address highlighted how the a number of businesses were still struggling as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic.
He added that families continue to suffer as a result of joblessness. The economy is yet to recover from the devastation of the Covid-19 pandemic.
Since the Government had been asked to extend the grants, the President highlighted that there were series of negotiations between the Government and its social partners.
The negotiations were aimed at having the grants extended so that the members of the public that are dependent on that money are not disadvantaged.
The President Ramaphosa highlighted that over the previous months there had been ongoing negotiations for the extension of social and economic support to the members of the public .
It is then that the President of South Africa announced that there is going to be an extension of the R350 Unemployment Grant by three more months.

The aim of the R350 Unemployment Grant is to reduce the impact of the Covid-19 on the livelihoods of the members of the public.
The Government had been underfire for letting the R350 Unemployment Grant elapse without extending the grants.Millions of South Africans depend on this grant as means of survival.
As the economy was put to a stand still because of the Covid-19 pandemic, many jobs got lost thereby increasing the number of people that are dependent on the unemployment grants and other forms of government assistance.
