A Well Known South African Musician Has Passed Away.

Jonas Mosa Gwangwa was a South African Jazz musician, songwriter and producer. He was born in 1937. Gwangwa was born in Orlando East, Soweto. He first gained prominence playing trombone with The Jazz Epistles. After the group broke up he continued to be important to the South African music scene and then later abroad. Despite his international fame, he was not seen favorably by the apartheid government, and went into exile in the 1970s.

It was announced today that Mr Jonas had passed away by the Twitter page of Cyril Ramaphosa.

A giant of our revolutionary cultural movement and our democratic creative industries has been called to rest; the trombone that boomed with boldness and bravery, and equally warmed our hearts with mellow melody has lost its life force.

In our hour of mourning the loss of many precious lives around us, we pray also that the soul of Jonas Gwangwa will rest in peace. Cyril Ramaphosa tweeted.

Messages of condolences are Pouring in for the Gwangwa family.
