Jolidee Matongo was a South African politician who served as the mayor of Johannesburg from 10 August 2021 until his death on 18 September 2021. Prior to his election as mayor, he served as the member of the mayoral committee for finance under his predecessor, Geoff Makhubo, who died from COVID-19 complications.Born and bred in Soweto in 1974 ,he was the biological son of the late Edward Matongo a Zimbabwean migrant. Apparently his father came to South Africa 50 years ago.
He started falling in love with Politics at the tender age of 13 and he has been involved in many political issues of the ANC. He worked as the finance MMC for City of Johannesburg under the leadership of the late Geoff Makhubo.
Matongo was not only a Politician but also a proud father and husband to his lovely wife.The pair has been married for more than 15 years and they have two adorable children.
