If you are a holder of the Zimbabwe Exemption Permit , you need to take note of the notification that was made by the Minister of Home Affairs Dr Aaron Motsoaledi. This came after the department of Home Affairs was challenged by a Non Governmental Organization over the non-extension of the Exemption Permits .
Here is the notification from the Minister
The Minister of Home Affairs Dr Aaron Motsoaledi urged the holders of the Zimbabwe Exemption Permits to ignore what he termed false hope that was being created by HSF.He described what the organization was doing as being destructive to South Africa.
The Minister Motsoaledi reportedly called on all affected Zimbabweans to ignore the hope that was being created by the organisations and to comply with the procedures that were announced by his department.
The Minister expressed devastation at Helen Suzman Foundation's decision to challenge his department in court for not renewing the permits , citing that it could have made engagements with it .The decision that was made by the department not to renew the permits is set to affect thousands of Zimbabweans who work and study in South Africa.
The affected Zimbabweans have up to the end of the year to apply for other permits to legalize their stay in South Africa. When they fail to do so , they will be forced to leave the country. There are no plans by the Department of Home Affairs to extend the period.
However , the affected need to find other ways of convincing the South African government to extend the period if they fail to get the desired permits to be in South Africa. It is yet to be seen if Dr Motsoaledi's department is willing to extend the grace period for the Zimbabweans .
