Msibi claims Mpumalanga premier was behind his arrest for murder

Mchunu Nduduzo 20 October 2021

Murder accused and former MEC of Agriculture, Mandla Msibi, has made damning allegations that the office of Mpumalanga Premier Refilwe Mtsweni-Tsipane landed him behind bars.

Speaking after being granted bail by the Nelspruit Magistrate’s Court, Msibi claimed that the office of the premier, as well as three female MECs and one male MEC, have been abusing their state power.

He alleges that ANC Mpumalanga acting spokesperson Lindiwe Ntshalintshali and himself are victims of persecution for voicing different opinions.

“Over ten people have been killed in Barberton after the election list commenced and police have done nothing about it,” Msibi said.

“We are lucky to come out of prison alive.”

Msibi said that he accepts the decision by the Provincial Executive Committee (PEC) of the ANC for him to step down but will request an audience with the National Executive Committee to name the MECs and premier’s involvement and present a detailed outline of his persecution.

The premier’s spokesperson Sibongile Mkani-Mpolweni told Scrolla.Africa that MEC Msibi has a responsibility to report any real or perceived manipulation of the criminal justice system through the correct channels.

Bail was set at R20,000 each for Msibi and his co-accused, Anele Mnisi and Njabulo Mkhonto, who are each facing a double murder charge as well as one count of attempted murder.

The trio is accused of shooting and killing two ANC members, Dingaan Ngwenya and Sindela Lubisi, and injuring Sfiso Mpila on 22 August.

The incident is said to be related to party infighting and Umjindi councillor Lifa Nkosi has claimed that he was the intended target.

Msibi said that it is surprising that it took almost a week for the attack to be reported to the PEC, alleging this was a calculated strategy to take him down.

ANC Mpumalanga provincial acting secretary Lindiwe Ntshalintshali said that police should not be one-sided regarding the case.

“Lifa should tell me why he called me when he was at the gate and who invited him to the exclusive event,” she said.
