Gauteng police have put measures in place to guard against any potential unrest, this comes after concerns over the lack of police during the fire in parliament and an attack on the Constitutional Court building.
The Commissioner of Police in the Gauteng Province said the lessons learnt during the 2021 July violence and unrest that swept over the country has led to more collaborative communities and the private sector to curb crime in the country. Even though the President has said on Wednesday that the country is not under siege, despite some people speculating that the attacks on certain National Key Points is a beginning of another resurgence of some of the unrest which was witnessed in the past year in July. However, on Thursday 6th of January, there is an operation in Gauteng that is led by the Commissioner of Police in Gauteng, General Elias Mawela.
The operation is taking place in one of the areas that was a hotspot for the July 2021 unrest. Source: https://www.enca.com/videos/gauteng-police-ready-potential-unrest
