Cyril Ramaphosa In Hot Water After A Voice Recording Was Leaked For Misuse of Money

The South African Public protector Busisiwe Mkhwebane recently confirmed that she received a complaint that President Cyril Ramaphosa has allegedly breached the Executive Code of Ethics.

This has everything to do with a leaked audio where President Cyril Ramaphosa, reputedly speaking at a summon of the ANC's national executive committee, allegedly suggested he was very aware of inappropriate use of public funds for ANC activities.

“Busisiwe Mkhwebane reminds everyone all that in terms of the Executive Members Ethics Act, she must investigate the alleged breach of the code by the president or any member of the National Assembly,” said public protector spokesperson Oupa Segalwe.

“The EMEA reported that investigation will be done within 30 days.”

The public protector's office announced that the complaint was lodged on Wednesday afternoon.

It was lodged after suspended ANC MP Mervyn Dirks appeared before parliament, where he urged the committee to call Cyril Ramaphosa to face his alleged remarks.

During the meeting, Dirks stated that he would be lodging a complaint to the public protector about Ramaphosa's alleged conduct.

“The fact that president Cyril Ramaphosa new about the misuse of public funds, is definitely in serious breach of the Ethics Code, and this puts him in a very bad condition,” he said at the time.

Dirks said he would also be lodging another complaint to chief justice Raymond Zondo, regarding Ramaphosa's misuse of public funds.

“What President Ramaphosa stated in the audio clip is that he knows about the mismanagement of public funds,” Dirks said on Tuesday.

“We can't go around in circles, the mismanagement of public funds is an act of criminality. In simple language, it is a crime.
