Just IN | DA’s Raymond Zondo elected speaker of Ekurhuleni Metro

In a shock outcome in the Ekurhuleni Metro, the Democratic Alliance has won. The new Ekurhuleni Speaker is DA's Raymond Dlamini who won 116 of the 224 votes casted.

With over 224 councilors present at the swearing-in of councilors, the Democratic Alliance will see this as a major win having one of their own represent them in the highly contested Metro. Despite having a number of front runners including the ANC and EFF, the DA have managed to turn the tables. It seems as though we will have a council that consists of different parties at the helm. Earlier in the day, DA Federal Chair Helen Zille reiterated that the DA’s stance on not supporting Action SA’s Herman Mashaba for the mayoral position in the City of Joburg. Zille says they are not prepared to vote be part of an agreement that involves the EFF. Does this mean the ANC will get everything on a silver platter?

Is this a sign of things to come?
