Supporters of the ruling party in South Africa were made to celebrate on the 7th or October 2021 after a decisive action was taken by the leadership of the party. Over the past few months, the ANC has been indeed a party which is in a crisis. Factional wars coupled with weak leadership and blunders in decision making have made it look like a bus without a driver. One cannot deny that the popularity of the ANC has declined over the past few years because of this. In a report which was published today by the SAfm News, the leadership in the ANC seem to have finally done something that pleased it's supporters.
It was reported that the ANC in the Free State has suspended the party's provincial chief whip, Vusi Tshabalala. Vusi has been with immediate effect suspended from his roles of being a member and party leader in the legislature. This happens at a time when the party is heading towards the elections. It was widely expected that the party members would be united at this time pulling strings in one direction. However it seems like there are still some comrades who still have their boxing gloves on.
The Free State Province seems to be an area of contention within the ANC. A shocking statement was issued out by ANC National Executive Committee member, Zizi Kodwa.
He said the party will not be intimidated by certain individuals who left the party for personal gain. Kodwa was campaining in Qwaqwa, in the Free State ahead of the elections.
Wild celebrations were shared on social media platforms after the news of the suspension of comrade Vusi. It seems like it was an indeed good riddance which was necessary.
What is however painful is the fact that he will continue to be on the ANC payroll during the time in which he is suspended until his eventual expulsion. Below are some reactions from users on twitter when they heard the news of the suspension of the party bigwig.
