ZIMBABWE GOVERNMENT DECLARES URBAN ROADS A STATE OF DISASTER.
The state of affairs of Zimbabwean roads in all major towns and cities have totally broken down, beyond manageable levels with motorists finding it hard to drive along. It is a very worrying state as years have gone by for a very prolonged time, without any going concern over roads rehabilitation and maintenanceIn a conceding face on failure of achievement, towards a tenable management of our road networks, government announced a state of disaster on the state of roads. It is a true living statement because the Minister of Local, Rural and Urban Development, Hon July Moyo made a stunning revelation shooting down any chance of restoration of normalcy
Motorists are faced with the most difficult circumstances to navigate through our roads, and Harare is agonisingly dilapidated in most of all roads. Today, we had a chance to come across the reality of the disastrous moments, when driving along Boshoff Drive near Sunningdale suburbs in Harare
Boshoff Drive is a road on the fringes of Graniteside Light Industrial area, which borders with Sunningdale suburbs. Driving from ArdMbare end towards the Eastern end , eventually connecting with Seke road was such a horrible experience
The road is now in tatters with huge pot holes and severely damaged, such that light vehicles which are low sometimes reap the surface from underneath. There is no section which you may consider to be called a road, and the city of Harare must consider decommissioning Boshoff Drive
Paying motor vehicle licences is a broad day light robbery, because it is very unfair and how will then the government have to do in rebuking the situation. The acceptance by Hon Minister July Moyo that our roads are a total state of disaster, is a testimony that government has failed the nationIt will be unfair to talk about our councils as failures, because the same councils fall under the auspices of Local government. Considering the weaning of Motor licencing fees to Zimbabwe National Roads Authority, ZINARA, our councils don't have jurisdiction over monetary management
They are far aggravated and disadvantaged because, revenue realised from vehicle licencing is being detoured elsewhere and not fully ploughed back, into urban roads maintenence
Calling our roads a state of disaster is an acknowledgement of failure, and asking for help from SOS and with sanctions hitting hard, and America intensifying it's policy towards Mnangagwa government, that will be a cry with no hope. Had it been a humanitarian crisis then SOS might have to chip in but hopes are very slim and in vanity
Even though, if SOS is to come on board they fear that funds will be diverted and information on ground is that Harare- Beitbridge works are in disarray as construction carried out has failed. This is how money is stolen, government awards tender to friends for Ministers without solid knowledge and equipment to properly execute the task
This publication was told that most work which was done by local contractors, is a shame of poor job which is seeing light vehicles hardly possible to drive through. The only credible work with good results was carried out by Bitcon, and such misconception in throwing out reputable companies over mediocrity must be condemned
