Nciza is a staunch supporter of Mzwandile Masina, and the Ekurhuleni Regional Conference just elected him as its chair.
Nciza is here at the conference as one of the Ekurhuleni branch delegates alongside Mzwandile Masina. They are rooting for Lebogang Maile to be elected as provincial chair of the African National Congress in the province of Gauteng.
There has been talk of a united slate, indicating that the contests at this conference may be close.
Panyaza Lesufi and Lebohang Maile are at odds, but the ANC Gauteng provincial leadership is working to bring them together on a single slate. Their proposed leadership team consists of Lesufi as chair and Maile as vice chair.
In all other departments, status quo is expected to prevail. But the Sedibeng and Ekhuruleni regional chiefs have rejected the unity slate. Mzwandile Masina, Lebogang Maile's campaign manager, is confident in his candidate's chances against Panyaza Lesufi.
Lebogang Maile and Panyaza Lesufi have both declared on social media that they are excellent friends and have competed against each other in the past, despite rumors to the contrary before the conference "To rephrase: we wish each other well and harbor no ill will. Inevitably, disagreements will arise in any political system. This isn't the first time we've had this argument, and he's always won.
Parallel service was maintained. We need not change our actions as a result of this summit." As Lebogang Maile has put it.
Maile laughs and answers, "I don't know; it's up to the voting delegates." when asked if he will win the election against Panyaza Lesufi.
