Africa politics

South Africa needs a young president. We need Duduzane Zuma to step in (OPINION)

Democracy is never about elections once in every five years, it’s about building dynamic processes that involve people in their everyday lives. If we lose, if we give up on that opportunity I think we fail fundamentally to understand what democracy requires of us.

It is young people who are the movers and shakers. We want to also see that in politics. We want our country to be painted young. We want our country to have a young voice. South Africa’s youth can transform our country. The long tenures of older politicians continue to stifle the emergence of credible youthful successors.

Older political elites believe they have all the solutions to development challenges. Their solutions mostly suit the elites, rather than the young people. There is limited consultation in ideation between the youth and the older leaders.

Accountable leadership remains one of the biggest challenges to development in South Africa. Leaders in South Africa have not always responded effectively to the needs of the country, but there is hope in the rising generation of youth who could play a critical role in building accountability for successful economic transformation, representation, and public service. The urgency of these efforts is not lost on the youth, as they have the most to lose if solutions are not enacted.

Dangers of living in South Africa :

• South Africa has a high level of crime, including rape and murder. The risk of violent crime to visitors travelling to the main tourist destinations is generally low. The South African authorities prioritise protecting tourists and tourism police are deployed in several towns and cities.

• In some regards South Africa is still regarded as an unsafe area to visit and in some areas poverty and crime are still rife. However, provided you exercise due care and caution while living in South Africa, as you should anywhere else in the world, you will generally find that people are friendly and welcoming

Crime is the major problem in South Africa. If a young president steps in even jobs will be created and the perfect candidate is Duduzane Zuma. Older politicians are not doing enough.
