Senior director fired for giving Bushiri permanent residence
24th May 2022
Home Affairs have announced that Chief Director Ronney Marhule has been dismissed over his recommendation for Bushiri’s family to get permanent residency.
Marhule fraudulently issued a South African permanent residency permit to fugitive Shepherd Bushiri and his family in 2016.
Bushiri was given a permanent permit on the basis that he was an investor who had a bank balance of over R2 million and a private jet.
The self-proclaimed prophet was described as the mastermind who captured Home Affairs officials including Marhule.
Marhule tried to take his dismissal case to the Labour court but he failed after the court found that the relationship between him and his employer was no longer repairable.
He has been charged for non compliance with immigration laws and misconduct.
Minister of Home Affairs Dr Aaron Motsoaledi said they have done their part and they are waiting for law enforcement agencies to play their role.
In November 2020, Bushiri and his family fled South Africa while he and his wife were out on R200,000 bail each.
They were facing charges of fraud and money laundering.
Meanwhile Bushiri is continuing with his life in his home country of Malawi where he has a church and they are involved in charity work.
