Ace Magashule is a suspended member of the African National Congress who is facing charges worth hundreds of millions of Rand and will continue with his pre-trial hearing in Bloemfontein High Court later today.
Ace and 10 others are facing charges related to alleged awarding of tenders in an unappropriate manner. All the money related to these crimes is believed to be worth around 255 million, and they will have to give their all if they are to ensure that the case does not go to actual trial.
It is easier said than done because they are facing not a single charge but more than 70 charges that have been laid against them, and they will have to defend themselves against all of those they are being accused of having committed by the state.
According to Mthunzi Mhaga, who is the national prosecuting authority spokesperson, although there were issues related to the representative of one of the accused, they are now set to proceed with the free trial, so Ace and all the other accused, together with their representatives, will have to be ready to defend their skin in Bloemfontein.
And the African National Congress has also advised their members against going to court in support of those who have committed the crimes, and the organization does not want to associate themselves with those who are corrupted, according to Oupa Khoabane, who is an IPC member.
All those who have committed crimes have to face the court and if they're not guilty, they will be released. But if they are guilty of what they are being accused of, then they should face the fire. I think in the end, the truth will come out and those who are guilty could go to jail for a long time, because we are talking about millions of rands worth of tenders which were awarded illegally.
What do you think will happen? Do you believe they will be able to walk away unscathed, or will they become entangled in their own wrongdoing?
