Opinion || Ramaphosa has dealt with corruption decisively.

Many people probably didn’t know anything about faction within the African National Congress(ANC) till Cyril Ramaphosa took over. Ever since the promises he made in 2018 after he took over from former President Jacob Zuma to crack down on corruption.

Many may believe that corruption in the ANC is at its highest under Cyril Ramaphosa than it was under the three former Presidents but they are mistaken. From the late Nelson Mandela to Jacob Zuma these presidents had mastered the art of putting the ANC first before the country.

It maybe unfortunate that Covid 19 came when it was Cyril’s term at the helm. But I am definite the way he dealt with the Personal Protective Clothing (PPC) scandals was decisive and quick. The investigations were up to point and there were no unnecessary delays.

Jacob Zuma reshuffled cabinets like nobody’s business but throughout that time it was never because the ministers were corrupt but because he had his reasons he probably never shared with anyone. Most ministers who served under him were corrupt and have been implicated in the state capture enquiry.

There is no doubt that Jacob Zuma was one of the most beloved within the ANC because he made sure that members of the ANC were protected from prosecution at all cost and their crimes were hidden from the world.

Since Ramaphosa took over a number of ministers have been suspended, asked to step aside and some have had criminal charges laid against them. Some ANC bigwigs like Ace Magashule and former minister of health Zweli Mkhize are some of the few who probably thought they were untouchable, but they ended up being asked to step aside and were fired. Who ever imagined that a former president will spend a day in jail but we have seen it with Jacob Zuma who defied the courts and almost brought shame on the Judiciary. No one is above the law under Ramaphosa.

The factionalism within the ANC has been exposed under Cyril Ramaphosa not because he is weak or a bad president but because the corrupt have made it a point to disrupt day to day functionalism of the ruling party and the government.

They pose as the people’s representative and as if they have people’s needs at heart but deep down inside they are ravenous, corrupt wolves who are seeking another leader who will protect them no matter what as they go on with their day to day acts of corruption and theft.

Corruption under Ramaphosa is not at its high but it has been exposed. So take a moment and give Cyril Ramaphosa a bells.
