'Gloves Are Off' As Mkhize Accepts Call To Run As ANC President

Former health minister, Dr Zweli Mkhize has accepted the call by some traditional leaders to run for the ANC Presidency.

Mkhize who has been facing an avalanche of allegations of corruption which prompted him to resign last year has argued that it seems as if there are people who are trying find anything against him.

The ANC heavyweight however despite the corruption allegations that he is facing, says he will soldier on regardless of the "campaign to smear him."

Some of Zweli Mkhize's opponents stated that besides the fact the former health minister is facing corruption allegations, they don't want any ANC president from Kwa-Zulu Natal anymore.

Mkhize Accepts his nomination for ANC presidency after another Zuma ally, Dlamini revealed that she will be contesting for ANC presidency after she was nominated by party branches.

Former ANC MP, Sizani Dlamini-Dubazana, who has been working on renewal projects in the province, became the latest candidate to join the race for the ANC presidency.

ANC comrades in Kwa-Zulu Natal will have a hard time diciding who should be their candidate, but it seems Zweli Mkhize has more supporters compared to Dlamini-Dubazana

Amakhosi who nominated the ANC heavyweight, presented a symbolic leopard skin to him after the endorsement for the ANC Presidency.

All this happened at the umgcagco ceremony of Dedani Mkhize and Sithokozile Mthembu at Willowfontein township in Pietermaritzburg on Saturday.

Mkhize is slowly emerging as RET's favourite as Ace Magashule, the suspended secretary general cannot avail himself for the task even if branches nominates him due to the step aside guidelines.

The amended guidelines are also a bottleneck as they prevent branches from nominating anyone who is facing criminal charges. This means Magashule cannot stand for the task.

Zweli Mkhize having been also one of the longest ANC serving members, has support from quite a sizeable number of ANC structures and at the elective conference in December, this might work in his favour.
