Emotion runs high at the State Capture Commission as Minister Pravin Gordhan is being cross-examined

Emotions have run high during the cross examination at the State Capture Commission in Johannesburg of Minister Pravin Gordhan by Tom Moyane's legal counsel Dali Mpofu.

Moyane's legal team first accused evidence leader Matthew Chaskalson of wasting time by allowing Minister Gordhan to give long replies on matters that they claimed were already public knowledge.

During the cross-examination Mpofu accused Gordhan of arrogance after the Minister refused to give a yes or no answer.

"Chairperson I think If Mr. Mpofu wants a "Yes" or a "No" answer, he must ask one question at a time" said Minister Gordhan.

Advocate Mpofu then told Minister Gordhan to cooperate as he is being cross-examined.

"You're not going to be arrogant Mr. Gordhan, You're the one who's being cross-examined" said Advocate Mpofu.

The inquiry gave Moyane permission to question Gordhan after he earlier testified that Moyane laid a criminal complaint against him to advance his own interests. Gordhan has attributed integrity and governance failures at SARS to Moyane, saying that he must be held accountable.
