Opinion: Why Ramaphosa kept SA on Level 3

South Africa was at a complete standstill after the Presidency announced that President Cyril Ramaphosa would address the country this evening.

Given the high rate of poitive cases the country has seen of late, the country was convinced that President Ramaphosa would be announcing a hard lockdown for the country to curb the spread.

Speaking on national tv, President Ramaphosa however announced that the country would remain on Adjusted Level 3,with some meaaures introduced.

- most measures in adjusted level 3 will remain in place.

- gatherings remain prohibited

- gyms & the likes aren’t outlawed.

Hours of curfew will start at 21:00 and end at 05:00

Ramaphosa also addes that it’s compulsory to wear mask in public.

South Africa is now amidst a second wave of the coronavirus, death rate has increased and number of confirmed positive cases is also soaring, which could only mean one thing- Hard Lockdown. 

The coronavirus continues to claim more lives, leaving many more in Intensive Care Units, battling for survival and the economy in a fumbling position. 

Last week alone, the country experienced approximately 100 000 new Covid-19 cases. An alarming 20 000 new cases were recorded in just one single day.
