A few days ago, suspended ANC Secretary-General Ace Magashule attended the EFF Freedom Day rally in Kliptown and was seen mingling with the top leaders of the EFF. While the masses were smitten with the gesture, highlighting that the rally was not about the EFF but the country, ANC Free State members had a different opinion.
According to several reports, the Free State ANC Members believe that Magashule's presence at the rally was not only irresponsible but it destroy the image of the party as well. They urged other members not to follow suit, adding that being suspended does not give Magashule the freedom of throwing away the principles of the organization.
Coming to Magashule's defense, UDM's Bantu Holomisa says that ANC Free State members should be mature because opposition parties are not the enemies of the ANC hence he has also attended the governing party's events. He added that he has also played golf with ANC members.
While Holomisa has shown maturity in defending a leader of an opposition party, his critics are slamming him, calling him a mature spy. Some say that there are many things he should be commenting on like the Phala Phala farmgate scandal, and not the troubles of an opposition party.
One wonders how these political parties would even enter into a coalition when they see each other as enemies. Fighting corruption starts with leaders of opposition parties seeing each other as leaders of the country, not the competition that will snap power away.
All these fights are just a betrayal of citizens as they prove that their leaders are not mature enough to work together and support each other. Besides, power was meant to change hands. Weirdly, one party has had power for as long as the ANC had it without war.
If Magashule joins the EFF, then so be it. The governing party has not been too kind to him after all and he seems happier around the EFF. All that the country needs is the showmanship of South Africa's ability to evolve democratically.
