There are a number of ministers who have taken up cabinet positions without holding any relevant qualification.

This is evident in how one is able to become minister in several different departments.

To become a Minister one must mainly be a member of the ruling party.

The second important criteria is that one must be a member of parliament.

Now to become those, there is no formal education required at all.

Once having become a member of parliament, the National Assembly preferably, await cabinet reshuffle to happen and cross fingers that you make the cut.

The President consults with the ANC for any changes to cabinet so one would have to be in good books with the ANC national executive (If the ANC is in power).

Now it is not clear how another party would select cabinet ministers should it come into power.
