"I'm Lobbying Branches & Structures To Remove Cyril" - RET Leader

The ANC National Elective Conference is still some 12 months away, but there is a sense in which lobbying and plotting against incumbent President Cyril Ramaphosa has been intensified, particularly by the-so-called Radical Economic Transformation (RET) faction inside the party.

For many moons now, some elements of the RET Forces have demonstrably shown that they are inevitably set to challenge the Ramaphosa at the 2022 Conference.

They have premised their arguments on quite a myriad of issues, such as Ramaphosa's failure to implement Nasrec Resolutions - expropriation of land, nationalisation of the reserve Bank etc - they have also accused him of having a mandate from the owners of the means of production, this due to his proximity to white capital and also the issue of him using state organs to deal with political opponents. These are some of the factors that have created Ramaphosa many enemies.

Meanwhile, the chief RET proponent, Carl Niehaus, who by the way has been vociferous as he has been at time scandalous, dropped a massive bombshell this evening.

Apparently, instead of concerted effort calling for a special conference or the National General Council for Ramaphosa to step down, Niehaus was given quite a sound advice by a certain tweep, who suggested that RET Forces should abandon their opportunistic call for to step down now, rather should work the branches in preparation for the highly-anticipated conference.

Niehaus had none of it, as he indicated that they are as matter of fact working the branches while simultaneously pushing for Ramaphosa to be unseated before the end of his term.

"Hi comrade, of course I am lobbying branches and structures. I agree, we should have a National Conference, but we should not wait for next year December, we should have an urgent special National Ekective Conference ASAP. #RamaphosaMustGo! - The sooner the better," Niehaus posted on his official twitter account.

It is one's opinion that the RET faction which has demonstrated a desperate lack of coordination in so far as their plans are concerned, would potentially weaponise Ramaphosa against them if they persist with their likely to fail plot to unseat him at the upcoming National General Council.

It has never happened in the glorious history of the ANC whereby an incumbent President was removed at an NGC. Potentially, if Niehaus and Co's attempt to oust him produces a futile outcome, the next few months before the conference would certainly be unbearable for them, we would most likely see a situation whereby some of them could face all manner of suspensions and charges.

Therefore, although the probability of Ramaphosa retaining his position is high, the RET brigade need to work tirelessly on branch level to persuade delegates why they believe Ramaphosa is not the right man to take the party forward.

What do you make of Carl Niehaus' utterances regarding the RET's work at branch level?
