Orania is a small town located on the banks of the Orange River that has been developed as a stronghold for Afrikaans culture and the Afrikaner as a people who wish to exclusively preserve their language and identity. It is a place where anyone who identifies themselves as an Afrikaner is welcome to live. In other words, if you're not an Afrikaner then you do not qualify to be there. This is where Tito Mboweni has broken his silence about this 'town'.
"We need to politically deal with this Cape Independence group quickly. The DA must clearly pronounce themselves on this. Nip it in the bud. We are one United country. Not a Federal State". Do you think it is fair for people to be separating themselves in such a manner where they treat non Afrikaners like outsiders? If you ask me, this Oriana town is filled with people who do not want unity but wants whites to isolate themselves from blacks.
Mboweni is calling on the DA to sort this matter out. John Steenhuisen is also after South African unity, therefore this call will not be ignored. This town has been growing and growing while the government has just turned a blind eye to this. Let us not forget that they use their own currency(ORA) and if anyone wants to enter the town, they must produce a valid passport.
Do you think that they would allow a black man/woman into this town even if they identified as 'Afrikaner'? The answer is a cold and hard NO. In order to qualify, you have to be white. Even if they do accept a black person, how long will it be before they can look at him/her with scorn?
