The Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) ward 20 councilor applicant in Msunduzi Municipality has been shot dead.
Thulani Shangase was shot on Sunday evening in the Herwood region, in Caluza, Pietermaritzburg.
Mpulo said he went to the shop where they planned to meet.
"We have been told by individuals who were available at the gathering that he got a call and went outside to respond to it and that is the point at which he was shot," he said.
Mpulo said they can't affirm if his killing is identified with governmental issues yet they are trusting that the police will discover what may have prompted the killing.
"We realize that there is a ton of political bigotry in the Edendale region, however until further notice we couldn't say whether this is politically-related.
"This is a gigantic misfortune for the party. He was a dedicated individual and not really set in stone to help [the individuals of] ward 20.
"We had trusts that the EFF would assume control over ward 20 in the forthcoming neighborhood government races."
He said they won't rest until they discover reality with regards to why he was killed. He said they will push the police to explore the matter completely.
Mpulo said they will visit the family today.
Plessislaer Police representative Sergeant Sfiso Gwala said police are examining an instance of homicide. Nobody has been captured.
