Clause 9 (2) (a) (iii) of Schedule 2 of the Electoral Act exclusively prohibits political parties from buying votes. ANC might be in trouble with the IEC after the treasurer-general Paul Mashatile was caught on camera handing over cash bills on a campaign trail.
Paul Mashatile who was in Limpopo at a local church was seen surrounded by members wearing ANC regalia in what was outlined as a door-to-door campaign handed over bills of cash to local members.
Asked by a journalist why he was handing over cash yet the ANC workers were not paid for three months. Paul reiterated that he was just tithing in church after a church service but the video didn't collaborate the explanation given by the treasurer general.
It's not the first time that ANC leaders have been accused of trying to buy votes, in the 2019 elections Ace Magashule was accused of trying to buy votes in Free State after he was caught handing out cash to local residents.
