Jolidee Matongo was a South African politician who served as the mayor of Johannesburg from 10 August 2021 until his death on 18 September 2021. Prior to his election as mayor, he served as the member of the mayoral committee for finance under his predecessor, Geoff Makhubo, who died from COVID-19 complications.Matongo was born and raised in Soweto by his father who is believed to be Zimbabwean immigrant who came to South Africa 50 years ago.He was a member of the ANC in good standing.
Jollidee was appointed as the Johannesburg Mayor few weeks ago and his appointed came with lot of questions as people where mentioning the fact that his father was a Zimbabwean. He studied at the University of South Africa.Matongo lived in Lenasia South of Gauteng with his wife and their adorable children.
Matngo died today as a result of car accidents. He has served at different portfolios in the City of Johannesburg. His dedication and commitment to the City and ANC will be missed.
