Rest in peace | Covid-19 claimed another life of a top politician.

Papi Diratsagae Kganare, the director general of the Congress of the People (Cope) as well as erstwhile Free State Education MEC, ended up dead of Covid-19. Cope as well as his relatives also corroborated this. According to Cope national spokesperson Dennis Bloem, he perished at Life Flora Hospital in Johannesburg at 18:30 on Saturday.

“Dear Brothers and Sisters, I am writing to express my heartfelt gratitude for all you have done for me We regret to inform you that our General Secretary, Mr Papi Diratsagae Kganare, has passed away. Cope has suffered a setback. We have lost a committed leader and a true Comrade. We send our heartfelt condolences to his entire family. May his spirit find eternal rest.” according to the party.

Kganare had already been in the hospital for more than a month, according to Bloem, fighting Covid-19. His wife Bridget as well as four children are his only survivors. Kganare was admitted to hospital with Bridget more than a month ago, and that she was released two weeks ago, according to his brother-in-law as well as family director of communications Reginald Jordan. Jordan told reporters: “Bridget is still on oxygen support and also has obtained the news of her husband's passing extremely horribly, she is distressed.” We're still trying to come to terms with the enormity of our loss. Kganare was a family-oriented individual.” The illness infected Kganare's daughter and granddaughter as well, but all recovered, according to Jordan.
