ANC's 18th amendment bill has been met with strong criticism by some of its own comrades who argue that at the Nasrec conference, expropriation of land without compensation was what they agreed on.
Former Umkhonto Wesizwe Military Veterans Association spokesperson veteran, Carl Niehaus said at Nasrec conference, they agreed on expropriation of land without compensation and not privatisation as ANC presented it in parliament.
Even the Economic Freedom Fighters who had wanted to strike a deal with the ANC and help amend the bill to allow for expropriation of land without compensation, didn't vote with the ruling party after they noticed the method they want to redistribute land was not what they had initially wanted.
Carl Niehaus said this shows that the ruling party lacks leadership and the ANC NEC is like a toothless dog.
"What a mess! The 18th Amendment Bill was mismanaged from beginning to end. ANC leaders are a disgrace. Infact we have no leaders. The ANC NEC is ideologically incoherent snd theoretically weak. They sing 'umhlaba wonke ezandleni zabantu' but argue for private ownership of land," he said.
Niehaus has been critical of president Cyril Ramaphosa's administration and believes that apart from him being incompetent, he also lacks political backbone to lead. He said under his administration, Ramaphosa failed to implement a key Nasrec Conference resolution which is to expropriate land without compensation.
"Another dismal failure to implement an absolutely key resolution of the ANC 54th National Conference. Expropriation of land without compensation should be non-negotiable. But the ANC leadership has no backbone, and fell through the cracks of their own political dithering.
Let me substantiate that the ANC NEC has no backbone to implement Expropriation Without Compensation: See ANC statement of 2018. When did it change from Without Compensation to "Nil Compensation to be determined by the court of law and extended legislation of Expropriation Bill"? Carl Niehaus said.
