Citizens given rotten food parcels by the Municipality

The lockdown has seen many families begging for food, with many provinces provided with government food parcels.

The African National Congress Youth League was left guns blazing after the Giyani Municipality allegedly distributed rotten food parcels to the citizens.

It is reported the food parcels were handed out recently in Mbaula Village, 60km outside Giyani in Limpopo.

The sub- region ANC YL spokesperson Titanium Rabothata says the members tried to contact the municipality with no success, to discuss the issue at hand with the councillor.

"The office of the mayor has displayed the worst disrespect towards citizens by donating rotten food parcels. They are risking the lives of the people as this food parcels might be poisonous," said Rabothata.

This experience has made the Youth League to call on mayor Basani Shibambu to resign from her seat within a blink of an eye or the Youth League members will do it on her behalf.

"We received the food parcels from the Mopani Municipal District food's bank. We received the food sealed and we were not aware of its freshness. We don't open food parcels," said Municipal spokesperson Steven Mabunda.

"The food is donated, not bought by the municipality. The Youth League must contact us."
