With media reports emerging that South African President Cyril Ramaphosa has the full support of the African National Congress (ANC) top 6 one wonders if that a sign that he stands a good chance of serving a second term as President of the country.
The elections are still some months away but certain political leaders already seem to be in the running to be the country’s next President.
Despite all the scandals, the ANC has a number of potential candidates for the position of President ahead of the next elections.
While Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) Commander in Chief Julius Malema might be the only politician outside the ANC who stands a real chance of being the next President of the Republic of South Africa.
Below we take a look at some politicians that are expected to run for presidency in the next elections.
Julius Malema – the former ANCYL leader has a huge following and leads the country’s third biggest party. With the EFF growing in leaps and bounds everything, Malema might just be inline to become our next President.
Duduzane Zuma – Former President Jacob Zuma’s son has gone from being a controversial businessman associated with the controversial Gupta family to one of the most followed young politicians in the country.
David Mabuza – the media shy Mabuza surprised many when he became the country’s Deputy President at the ANC’s last elective conference and don’t be surprised if pulls another surprise to clinch the highest position in the country.
Ace Magashula – the former Free State Premier is reported to be part of the Radical Economic Transformation (RET) faction of the ANC and strong supporter of former President Jacob Zuma. Magashula might put his name up for Presidency to tackle the leadership back to the RET faction.
Zweli Mkhize – the Health Minister has been praised for the way he has handled and dealt with the Covid-19 pandemic and he has won the hearts of many over the past year. Mkhize previously ran for Presidency and is expected to once again try his luck.
