The Democratic Alliance successfully executed a strategic coup by replacing the White Chief Whip in Parliament with a Black Chief Whip.
Recent events have put the Democratic Alliance in a potentially disastrous position, as a large number of black party officials and members have resigned from their positions.
Many people made the accusation that the most prominent opposition party in the South African Parliament was controlled solely by white people. Since Helen Zille's election to the position of Chairperson of the Federal, numerous black community leaders have stepped down from their positions, and this trend has not abated since Zille's victory.
Today, Democratic Alliances told the public that Siviwe Gwarube, a member of Parliament, has been appointed to the position of Chief Whip for the Democratic Alliance in Parliament.
She is a person of African descent, and she took over for Natasha Mazzone, who was demoted as a result of certain rumors that had been circulating for a few months at this point. For me, this is a strategy to try to show that the positions at the Democratic Alliances are not only for people who are White. Only people of color can hold those positions.
"Siviwe will continue with our work of being a strong opposition, holding the Executive accountable while offering workable solutions to address South Africa's most pressing challenges," said Democratic Alliances. "We will not give up on our mission to be a strong opposition."
