South African-based Zimbabwean businessman, Canaan Kangausaru, on Friday announced his intentions to become the Member of Parliament for Chinhoyi, Mashonaland West Province in Zimbabwe's upcoming 2023 Elections. He will be running on the ZANU PF ticket.
Cde Kangausaru, an registered accountant by profession, who holds five degrees, various certificates and will soon add an MBA to that list, believes this is the time for all Zimbabweans - those in the diaspora and at home, to come together and work to rebuild their country.
"Like many Zimbabweans in South Africa, I sadly left my beloved country in order seek better economic opportunities," he told your reporter.
"However, while I have been away, I have still maintained close links with my beloved community - the people of Chinhoyi. I have never forgotten the plight of those where I come from. Being in South Africa, does not mean I am not aware of their dreams, hopes and aspirations.
"I certainly believe that this is the right time for me to take up those dreams, hopes and aspirations and make them a reality for the community that gave me so much. Becoming the Member of Parliament for Chinhoyi Constituency, as young as I am, certainly places me in a good position to take our nation forward."
On his choice of party, Cde Kangausaru said that while every Zimbabwean has the freedom to choose a party of their choice, he does not see a party more-prepared to fulfill the aspirations of the people of Chinhoyi and Zimbabwe than ZANU PF.
"Since the founding of the party and throughout its history - ZANU PF is the only party in Zimbabwe that has been consistent in uplifting the lives of Zimbabweans," he explained.
"When you look at these other small parties, which by the way have ZANU PF to thank for freeing the country and creating an environment for a multi-party democracy, you cannot ignore their checkered history of letting down their constituencies and the people of Zimbabwe."
Cde Kangausaru adds that, together with his team, he already has a plan of action that he cannot wait to implement as soon as he is elected.
"Of course, we are ready to hit the ground running as soon as the election is over. Chinhoyi is a place with amazing potential, our challenge has so far been poor leadership.
"My community needs jobs for young people, both small and large businesses need support, people need immediate access to clean water, healthcare and security among other things. These are things that you cannot postpone forever. So, I am saying to them, trust me to take Chinhoyi forward and vote for Canaan Kangausaru," he noted.
"It's not just about my degrees, but I have vast experience, unique skills and networks that I gained while running several businesses in South Africa. In addition, my unique situation of having spent time in South Africa and seeing from the ground how things are run by our neighbor - their successes and their mistakes, those are valuable lessons that you cannot take away from a well-traveled person.
"So, it's high time, I take all these skills, lessons and experiences to my people and help solve their day-to-day challenges.
"While others are running for public office - of course they would want it to be about them; I, on the other hand, am running with the people. Every voter in Chinhoyi voting for Canaan Kangausaru is voting for a better future for all. People always talk about the good old days, well how about we start creating a beautiful future together?"
General elections are expected in Zimbabwe in 2023 at a date to be announced. The people of Chinhoyi will certainly be looking out for Cde Kangausaru on the ballot paper.
