l had never imagined that a person could be put in holding cells from 08:00 till 16:00 without any crime, but because he cant speak shona, l never thought shonas can fix you for failing to express yourself in shona
When the holding cell was opened and told to go, i could'nt hold my tears after realizing, how the people l view as my own brothers, and sisters could do such a thingI've been lying to myself all this long but today i was made to realize, what i thought it was a lie. I regretted times and times l told My brothers and sisters that we are the same and that we were one
lm so so much hurt, i never thought such a thing will happen in my life time but it didn't just happened in life time but it happened to me, Its a sad story man
We went to deliver Our farm product at market. Just after delivering walking Out of the market, we met police officer in civil and they asked us to show them our exemption letters, then We gave them and our IDs. They asked in Shona what we were doing in the market, then we answered them in Ndebele that we had came to deliver green beans there
Then one of the officers said 'we dont understand, i then respond in English, again another one said the same, they asked if we cant speak shona, l said we can but the broken one
They asked about our office i responded in shona, they then said we told you that we cannot understand your language, they told us to get in their car and told us that we will spek in shona when we arrive to their station
We asked what were we going to do with Our truck because it wasnt locked they said that was not their business. They took us to central police and we were put in a cage, the officers who took us there told the one who was in charge of the cage and cells
That we cannot speak so he must let us be we were going to talk at 4 o'clock. To my shock that really happened and some were coming in and go coming and go, when ever we tried to talk to the officer who was attending to those coming in and out of cage and cells he didn't want to talk to us, l had to call other officers whom i know to come and talk to them since We had what was needed to be in town, he told them that he was going to let us go
Three officers come for our rescue but none of them succeeded he was telling them that He was not the one who arrested us, so he didn't had the right to release us, and that he didn't know why we were arrested
At 15:50 He called me and said so next time you know what to do, then asked Us whether We had 5000rtgs each to pay fine, we didn't have that money i only had $5usd so He took that money and let us go. They kept us there from 8- 4 just because we didn't speak Shona, to find all our things in the truck was just a miracle
Thats how i learnt what i've denying that its a Crime to be a Ndebele, and its evil to fail to speak Shona
My Opinion
