Why the Youth is not voting

Elections are just around the corner and every party is busy with its manifesto, campaigning for votes. Again, we are being promised a whole lot of things that we were promised before.

The government has adjusted the lockdown regulations, so as to allow South Africans to go place their votes. But who exactly will be voting and for which party?

Each and every year the government fails its citizens, it keeps on making the same promises and nothing ever gets done, and the youth is suffering the most.

Two weeks back SABC1's Daily Theta asked viewers if they will be registering to vote. Some had agreed that they have already registered and voted while majority were not interested in the elections. And we do not blame them as the youth is unemployed, majority have lost their jobs due to covid-19 and basically South African citizens have lost hope in the way the current government has been governing the country.

One viewer commented to the question of whether they will be registering to vote that, "I've never done that before because to me it seems useless, it benefit only those we vote for and their families while our brothers and sister are struggling out there".

Another also agreed and commented that, "Why should I?? Each time we vote, yet we still fail to find jobs. Tried applying at our local municipality when were posts were posted and was told that they were only for internal post, but knowing well that they have their own people which they put in there. So for me voting is just a waste of time and my vote."

There were some who were interested in voting but after loosing their jobs and also unable to get the R350 unemployment grant, it feels useless for them to go cast their vote.
