The deputy president of South Africa, David Mabuza was finally spotted on the ground engaging with citizens. This is unlike him, as he is famously known for going off the radar. When the pandemic started, it was always Ramaphosa on screens, giving multiple speeches and addresses. David Mabuza was nowhere to be found, until he disclosed that he was not fine and needed medical attention. The deputy president went to Russia and spent several months without engaging in any of the politics that took place in South Africa. During the time of the unrest, he was still in Russia and Ramaphosa had to handle everything by himself. He is finally showing interest in the ruling party and visited Mankweng residents in Limpopo. David Mabuza has multiple promises for the residents of Mankweng, as anticipated. He was also amazed by the warm welcome he received.
ANC Deputy President David Mabuza has expressed confidence in the party's performance in the upcoming local government elections (LGE).
Despite the challenges in service delivery, Mabuza believes the electorate still respects the ruling party. Mabuza is in Limpopo for a two-day election campaign in the Mankweng area outside of Polokwane.
“We are very happy about the respect that our people are showing us; our people still respect us; we need to shape ourselves; otherwise, there is nothing wrong with our people. Our people are telling us about two things here: they have a problem with sanitation, they have a problem with flooding into their houses when it rains, and they have a problem with water. We are very encouraged that everyone has stated their intention to vote for the ANC.”
Meanwhile, some potential voters who have interacted with Mabuza have expressed concern about a lack of water and the state of the roads.
David Mabuza kept on talking about him being optimistic about the next local elections performance. His statement does not align with how most South Africans view and hate the ANC recently. The ANC has made South Africans lose hope and faith in it. With all the looting, corruption and money laundering, most people have turned their backs on it. Mabuza could be uttering these words to please other comrades.
