There have been several allegations of political assassinations, to the point that former deputy president, Dr. Kgalema Motlanthe, suggested that the party could be hijacked by thugs and criminals. As a result, another ANC leader has been detained on suspicion of committing a terrible murder.
Lifa Blessing Nkosi, an ANC bigwig and former councillor in Mpumalanga, was detained this week in connection with the murder of Sergeant Nkosinathi Lucky Ngwenya, according to an exclusive report by News24.
At the time of his alleged murder, the deceased was purportedly not performing his official duties - or, to put it another way, he was off-duty.
The case was handled by the Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation (Hawks), whose specialized unit was despatched to Mpumalanga to apprehend Nkosi because to its high-profile character.
The exact date of the occurrence is unknown, although stories claim that the deceased and his friend were discovered in a Barbeton tavern, covered in blood from their wounds. Sadly, sergeant Ngwenya did not survive the shooting, but his friend managed to survive despite the odds.
Councillor Nkosi, 42, appeared in Barbeton Magistrate's Court yesterday, but the matter was adjourned until a week from today.
According to many who have interacted with him, Nkosi is a divisive political personality, but he is also a powerful political force in Mbombela, previously Nelspruit.
Despite fierce competition in the Umjindi municipality, where he served as the representative of ward 45, Nkosi was able to secure enough votes to be sworn in as a councilor.

That ambition, however, would soon become a phantom of his imaginations, as the ANC's stand aside rule will undoubtedly take effect, requiring all members facing severe criminal and other corruption allegations to step away until their cases are resolved.
Again, this is another proof of the ANC's incapacity in terms of candidate selection; nevertheless, how does such a problematic individual become a candidate councillor for a City municipality, lest one be accused of casting aspersions? Maybe we'll never know.

The fact that he is accused of murdering a police officer, a person whose job it is to guarantee community safety, is even more distressing. As a result, we ask the criminal justice system to leave no stone unturned in its pursuit of the perpetrator.
As a last thought, the ANC's membership selection procedures should be as rigorous as possible, as Dr. Motlanthe stated, and there must be a determination to purge the party of renegade individuals.
