CR22 looking at Senzo Mchunu as number two

CR22 looking at Senzo Mchunu as number two (1)

Former KZN Premier Senzo Mchunu is tipped to replace Ace Magashule as ANC Secretary General at the party’s national elective conference in December 2022. 2

Mchunu has won the heart of President Cyril Ramaphosa’s lobby group which is already pushing a CR22 slate. 3

CR22 is the term used for Cyril Ramaphosa in 2022 by his faction for the upcoming ANC elective congress. In 2017 his campaign was named CR17. 4

Reports have revealed that Mchunu has joined the likes of Minister Thandi Modise who is reportedly tipped for the position of deputy president and Febe Potgieter-Gqubule as the deputy secretary-general. 5

At the 2017 Nasrec elective conference, Mchunu was running for secretary-general position and was mistakenly taken to the stage as the winner while the real winner was the now suspended Magashule. 6

The current deputy president David Mabuza has been dumped by the CR22 supporters. 7

Mabuza has also been reprimanded for his speeches that were seen to be a campaign for a second term campaign ahead of the conference. 8

A new line up of the CR22 faction that was leaked to the Independent Media on Monday, showed that Ramaphosa, ANC national chairperson Gwede Mantashe and treasurer-general Paul Mashatile would retain their positions after next year’s conference.9

Pule Mabe lambasted the people behind the list, saying their motive was to deepen divisions within the ANC. 10

“The ANC has not even issued guidelines to structures about the 2022 national conference. 11

We have just come from local government elections where our performance showed a serious decline owing to a number of factors,” Mabe said. 12
