Minister of Human Settlements, Water and Sanitation, Lindiwe Sisulu has massive experience in the ministerial positions. She has recently shared some interesting news for those who are concerned about corruption and stolen funds in her Department.
The Minister has been on record declaring that she is committed to finalizing all fraud and corruption at the Department of Water and Sanitation.
The Department wrote on their official Twitter page:
"#SisuluAntiCorruption| Minister @LindiweSisuluSA has reiterated her commitment to root out corruption in the Department and its Water Boards. All fraud and corruption cases are being finalized in order to recover state funds."
With the support of her Department, the Minister seems head strong as we await to see tangible results as promised. The National Prosecution Authority of South Africa and the Hawks have been accused of not being able to make any convincing arrests for all the stolen government funds not to mention successful prosecutions.
The Department was embroiled in a lot of accusations of corruption especially when there was massive drought in other provinces. Farmers suffered the most and other provinces like Western Cape and Eastern Cape saw farm animals dying due to drought and insufficient water.
Former Minister of Water Affairs and Sanitation Nomvula Mokonyane was dampened in these corrupt activities in her Department. She was also mentioned by former Bosasa Manager Angelo Agrizzi as a very corrupt person. He alleged that she took bribes from the company, including food bribes and money. She earned favors from the alleged state capture family the Gupta's.
Corruption is still deep rooted in South Africa but arrests and recovery of stolen funds are yet to materialize. The Minister and her department seem to understand this and are acting on it. Eyes will be watching like a hawk to see the final outcome of this big declaration.
