Parliament member to vote virtually soon

One of the announcements made at the workshop on Tuesday by National Assembly Speaker Nosiviwe Mapisa Nqakula reportedly had to do with policies allowing for electronic voting by lawmakers. Voting during hybrid sessions that call for it will soon be possible for members of Parliament participating through the virtual platform.

Since Parliament adopted the hybrid house sitting style, members have not yet been able to cast ballots online. This difficulty will be solved by the implementation of the new system. The Speaker stated that it is essential that considerable attention be given to the development of technical competencies in order for members to be able to utilize technological tools in their day-to-day tasks given the expanding role and use of technology. As our democracy develops, Parliament must always be able to handle new difficulties and must constantly strengthen its institutional capacity to carry out its duty, according to a statement from Parliament.
